Gochang Buckwheat + Flower Festival: Goblin Kdrama
It’s the season for flowers again!
I was so surprised when I saw so many flowers blooming my first fall season in Korea. It was so different from back home and the colors are always so vivid and beautiful.
During one of the longer weekends we recently had due to a holiday, I visited Jealloabuk-do which is the region right next to Jeollanam-do. I went with a friend to Gochang, which was about an hour drive from Gwangju. Unfortunately, the day we went it was still a bit humid since it was right before a storm was coming that week, but despite the cloudy gray skies and really warm weather it was still enjoyable.
Hagwon farm was not super crowded at the time, but we could tell it most likely is very busy on weekends due to the road being lined with parked cars. Once you left the entrance, however, there weren’t too many people and there were plenty of areas to enjoy the nature views in peace.
The buckwheat flowers and cosmos were in full bloom, and there were many butterflies flying about.
This particular field is famous as a tourist spot because they filmed the popular Korean drama Goblin (도깨비) scenes in the field. Proven by the fact that there were many people waiting to take pictures at the shack featured in the show and among the buckwheat flowers (and the weather matched the tone of the drama the day we went too haha.)
After taking many pictures and wandering around the fields we decided to find lunch in another town where restaurants had better reviews, but saw a sign for pink muhly flowers on our way and decided to stop by. There was a road right next to the field past the cafes with a huge banner promoting the pink flowers so we followed the road till we arrived to a parking lot leading to the field.
The pink muhly field wasn’t super big but the color was more vivid to a place I visited last year, so I enjoyed it even though it had a 5,000 won entry fee. Since the first farm was free (with many more areas to walk around and take pics) it balanced out in my opinion, but if I had to pick only one area I would choose Hagwon Farm since it was prettier and free.
What flower field pictured would you want to see?
