Fall Blossoms: Hwasun Flower Festival
Second spring? No, just fall blossoms covering the landscape. I’m not sure if I ever realized before coming to Korea how many flowers can bloom during fall, as it isn’t really a big event back home like here I’ve noticed. But now I have come to enjoy Fall even more since not only does it have my favorite temperatures and feelings, but now also includes flower blossoms–one of my favorite aspects of spring. Whether Suncheon Bay Gardens or the hillsides of the country, Korea has many blossoms to visit including Hwasun’s Flower Festival. Located at Namsan Park (Not to be confused with the Namsan in Seoul) the city has dedicated…

Experiencing Autumn in South Korea
This is my second fall season in Korea and I wish I could enjoy this season more. Last year it came so late after a second summer hit the peninsula, but this year it seemed to come just in time. Leaves began changing as cold mornings require a jacket that you end up discarding once the afternoon heat hits. Green trees faded to yellow then orange and red. Korean Port City: Mokpo
I’m not a huge fan of big cities because they feel a bit stifling to me, but living in the southern part of Korea there is still plenty of nature nearby that is easily accessible. Mokpo being one of them Mokpo is a port city that is filled with much history despite its smaller size. In the past couple centuries it has gone through occupations and uprising while being nestled on the side of a mountain overlooking the western islands. Walking down its streets you can tell by the archistructure the carrying history that Mokpo has gone through. My first visit to the port city I visited Mokpo Modern History…

Juknokwon: Damyang’s Bamboo Forest
Tucked away in Jeollanam there’s a forest within a forest. Juknokwon, 죽녹원, is a bamboo forest creating a small and peaceful refuge within Damyang. There are trails that intertwine throughout that don’t take long to explore, and the perfect getaway if you want a small town feel but still enjoying nature. When I visited I took the bus from Gwangju, which is about an hour long ride depending on where in the city you are leaving from. Because the bus route goes out into the countryside you need to tell the driver where you plan to get off so they can charge your T-Money card accordingly. Otherwise the bus driver…
