Jeolla day trip: 4 things to do in Yeosu

When nature is your comforting escape, do you go to the mountains or the sea? Yeosu is a port city with coastal views, that many in the southern region often escape to. I’ve been able to visit the area a couple of times, as the city is tucked along the southern coast and surrounded by many small and larger islands. 1. Cable Car  Having taken the cable car in Mokpo once before, I think Yeosu was a much more pleasant trip and budget-friendly experience (can’t give up the chance for cheaper tickets!). You get the perfect view from above to look over the port, mountains, and shimmering waters. The ride…

Just a few pictures from my recent solo trip to Jeju Island where I was chasing sunsets and slow walks as I caught sight of these amazing views of the sky. Jeju really is a beautiful place and the perfect location to rest and heal.

    Oryukdo: Korea’s Beautiful Islands

The 5 to 6 islets off the coast of Busan are collectively known as Oryukdo (오룍도 literally meaning 5-6 islands in Korean). The name of these islands stems from the fact that you can see the 6th island depending on the tides. These well-known islands were formed by volcanic rock along the coast, and are about a 45 minute bus ride from Gwangalli Beach area. These beautiful islands are stunning, the tiny pieces of land standing proudly in the crystal blue water and have become home for both a marine sanctuary and geopark. When you visit you’ll most likely see local fishermen out on boats or along the rocky coast, and even…

Checking off the Bucket List: Gamcheon Culture Village

Before I even came to Korea, Gamcheon Culture Village was on my list. Although my initial plans for a dream trip with friends fell through due to Covid, I finally got to check it off my list after moving to Korea during a solo trip. I was particularly excited to see the book stairs and try the rose gelato, I used There She Goes Again handy dandy map because I almost walked by both locations since everything was so tucked away. The village was formed in the 1920s when refugees from the Korean War relocated to the mountain village where houses are stacked beside each other tightly. By the mid…

    Busan Book Street: Bosu-dong

After Korea’s independence, the effects of both World War II, and the Korean War brought an influx of refugees searching for ways to make an income. For Busan, people began selling their used books in the alleyway and before long the whole street was teeming with bookstores. The alley of book venders drew the attention of anyone looking to purchase copies of books or immerse themselves in rooms packed to the brim with a multitude of manuscripts.  Even today the narrow alley remains jam-packed with thousands of books in each of the stalls. The booksellers often sit outside their shops, chatting with one another until passersby stop in to peruse…

    Elephant Encounter: Krabi

Elephants are truly magnificent creatures, both giant and graceful. Seeing them up close is always an unforgettable experience, but getting to interact with them is even more special. It kind of blew my mind a bit driving through Thailand and seeing Elephants randomly walking about in the countryside. Not a sight I grew up seeing. While in Krabi, my friend found a nearby elephant sanctuary where they cared for 5 elephants of different backgrounds and ages. Once we arrived, the staff informed us about the different types of elephants and the history of their use in Thailand over the centuries in forests, wars, and how they are cared for today.…
