    Fall Blossoms: Hwasun Flower Festival

Second spring? No, just fall blossoms covering the landscape. I’m not sure if I ever realized before coming to Korea how many flowers can bloom during fall, as it isn’t really a big event back home like here I’ve noticed. But now I have come to enjoy Fall even more since not only does it have my favorite temperatures and feelings, but now also includes flower blossoms–one of my favorite aspects of spring. Whether Suncheon Bay Gardens or the hillsides of the country, Korea has many blossoms to visit including Hwasun’s Flower Festival. Located at Namsan Park (Not to be confused with the Namsan in Seoul) the city has dedicated…

    Experiencing Autumn in South Korea

This is my second fall season in Korea and I wish I could enjoy this season more. Last year it came so late after a second summer hit the peninsula, but this year it seemed to come just in time. Leaves began changing as cold mornings require a jacket that you end up discarding once the afternoon heat hits. Green trees faded to yellow then orange and red. A visit with family meant chasing the fall foliage both in the countryside outside of Seoul and in the southern part of the country in Jeollanamdo. We ended up taking a car and driving out of the city in a direction we…

    Juknokwon: Damyang’s Bamboo Forest

Tucked away in Jeollanam there’s a forest within a forest. Juknokwon, 죽녹원, is a bamboo forest creating a small and peaceful refuge within Damyang. There are trails that intertwine throughout that don’t take long to explore, and the perfect getaway if you want a small town feel but still enjoying nature. When I visited I took the bus from Gwangju, which is about an hour long ride depending on where in the city you are leaving from. Because the bus route goes out into the countryside you need to tell the driver where you plan to get off so they can charge your T-Money card accordingly. Otherwise the bus driver…

About Me

I can usually be found buried in a book, off in an imaginary world, or trying to capture life’s moments in pictures. I love all things related to storytelling and food, and have a huge case of wanderlust. I post about travel, my thoughts on trying to go through day-to-day life, and other interests, so I hope you stick around.
